2. The month: take its number (January = 1, December = 12) and reduce it.
3. The year: add up its four digits, then reduce.
4. The total: add the three resulting numbers, then reduce once more.

• Month: September = 9 → 9
• Year: 1 + 9 + 9 + 1 = 20 → 2 + 0 = 2
• Total: 9 + 9 + 2 = 20 → 2 + 0 = 2

The special case of 11/2

Take March 14, 1992. Day: 1 + 4 = 5. Month: March = 3. Year: 1 + 9 + 9 + 2 = 21 → 3. Total: 5 + 3 + 3 = 11. Eleven is a master number: tradition does not reduce it systematically and writes it 11/2. It's then read as a 2 lived at high intensity — the same need for connection, but with a keener sensitivity and a stronger inner demand. Nothing "superior" about it: simply another possible nuance.

Note that some schools add all the digits of the date in one go. The results sometimes differ by a point. If that's your case, keep the method above, the most common one, and treat the other number as a margin note.

The symbolism of 2

The 1 lays down unity, initiative, departure. The 2 introduces the other — and therefore relationship, nuance, dialogue. The whole symbolism of life path 2 lies in this shift: what matters is no longer just to move forward, but to move forward with.

Should you reduce 11 to 2?

Both readings coexist. Most practitioners keep the notation 11/2: you read the base 2 first, then the nuance brought by the 11. The simplest approach is to try both and keep the one that speaks to you honestly — without forcing an identification with the master number, which often flatters more than it illuminates.

Can my life path change?
