Numerology Compatibility: Calculate Your Duo

Numerology · ~8 min read

Numerology compatibility does not tell you whether a relationship "will work." It offers a reading grid: two birth dates, two life paths, and a third number that describes the color of your duo. Here is how to calculate it yourself, step by step, with a verified worked example.

The principle: three numbers, not one

In numerology, the compatibility of a pair (romantic, friendly or professional) is rarely read from a single figure. You work with three elements:

The life path is the number most used for this kind of reading because it rests on stable, objective data: the day, month and year of birth.

Step 1 — calculate each life path

The rule is simple: you reduce the day, the month and the year separately to a single digit (by successive additions), then you add the three results together and reduce once more.

Important exception: the master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are not reduced when they appear as the result of a step. If you don't land on one, keep reducing until you reach a digit between 1 and 9.

Example for person A — born 14/07/1990

Person A's life path is 4.

Example for person B — born 22/03/1988

Person B's life path is 6.

Step 2 — obtain the duo number

Add the two life paths together, then reduce the total to a single digit:

Here the duo number is 1. It is this number that describes the "third entity" the relationship forms: its tone, what it brings to the fore, its footholds and its possible tensions.

Reading the duo number: a few cues

Each number is a symbolic key, not a verdict. Here are broad tones to open the reading:

Two very different life paths do not "cancel each other out": they often complement one another. Numerology compatibility sheds light on styles, not on a definitive compatibility.

What it illuminates day to day

Used as a mirror, this reading helps name dynamics we feel without always putting them into words: one needs structure (4), the other care and harmony (6), and their duo (1) pushes them to dare new projects. The point is not to judge each other, but to better understand each person's needs and to talk more clearly.

It is also a starting point, not an end: the numbers offer hypotheses that only the lived experience of the relationship can confirm or qualify.

Points to keep in mind

FAQ

Do you need identical birth dates to be compatible?

No. Numerology compatibility does not look for resemblance but for complementarity. Distant life paths often describe roles that balance each other rather than clash.

Can it be used for a friendship or for work?

Yes. The same method applies to any relationship: simply compare the two life paths and read the duo number as the tone of that particular bond.

Can the duo number change?

No, it follows from the two birth dates, which are fixed. What evolves is the way you inhabit this dynamic over time.
