The Personal Month: The Rhythm of Your Year

Numerology · ~8 min read

In numerology, the personal month divides your personal year into twelve successive tones. It does not predict what will happen to you: it offers a color for the current period, a possible way to inhabit the weeks ahead. Here is how to calculate it without error, and above all how to read it as an invitation rather than a program.

What is the personal month?

Numerology is not limited to the fixed portrait (life path, expression number). It also offers a reading of time, in nested cycles: the personal year, which sets the tone for an entire year; the personal month, which refines that tone month by month; and, finer still, the personal day.

The personal month is therefore a subdivision. It is always read in relation to the personal year it belongs to: the same personal month "4" is not experienced the same way in a personal year 1 (momentum, beginnings) as in a personal year 9 (review, closure). It is a rhythm, not an oracle.

The calculation method, step by step

The calculation happens in two stages. First you establish the personal year, then you add the calendar month to it. You apply theosophical reduction throughout: add the digits until you obtain a number between 1 and 9 (keeping 11, 22 and 33 if they appear).

Step 1 — the personal year

  1. Reduce your day of birth to a single digit.
  2. Reduce your month of birth to a single digit.
  3. Reduce the current year (not your year of birth) by adding its four digits.
  4. Add the three results together, then reduce one last time.

Step 2 — the personal month

  1. Reduce the calendar month concerned (January = 1, … December = 12 → 3).
  2. Add it to your personal year, then reduce.

A worked example

Let's take a birth on 14 June, and calculate the personal month for July 2026.

First the personal year 2026:

The personal year is therefore 3.

Then the personal month for July:

The personal month for July 2026 is therefore 1. A useful little check: the following month, August (8), gives 3 + 8 = 11. Here a master number appears — tradition suggests noting it as it is (11) while keeping its reduction (2) in mind. Always verify your addition: a one-digit error changes the whole month.

What each personal month can evoke

These descriptions are symbolic leads, to be weighed and not applied mechanically. They describe an atmosphere, not events.

What it can illuminate day to day

A personal month decides nothing. Above all it offers a vocabulary to name an atmosphere that we sometimes feel only vaguely.

Planning with the right pinch of salt

Some like to place their big launches in personal month 1, and reserve months 7 or 9 for reflection or sorting through. It is a poetic way to give the year a rhythm — not a law. If a mature project presents itself in month 7, nothing forbids launching it: the grid accompanies intuition, it does not replace it.

Rereading a period that has passed

The personal month is often more telling after the fact. Looking at the month that has just passed through its number sometimes helps to understand why you felt withdrawn, or on the contrary carried along. It is a mirror, to be confronted with what you actually lived.

Easing guilt

Knowing you are in a month 2 or 7 can help you allow yourself slowness, when you would tend to reproach yourself for not "producing." Here again, it is a kind hypothesis, to keep as long as it helps and to let go as soon as it confines.

FAQ

Does the personal month change with each calendar month?

Yes: it is recalculated for each month of the calendar, since you add the month's number to the personal year. The progression is not regular (it "jumps" because of the reductions), and that is normal.

Do you need the time of birth?

No, the date is enough — as with the life path. This is a difference from astrology, where the exact time determines the Rising sign and the houses. The two approaches complement each other more than they compete.

What should I do if the personal month does not match my experience?

That is information in itself. First check the calculation, then read the description as one lead among others. If it does not resonate, set it aside without forcing: a grid that says nothing to you has no right to impose itself.

Numbers set the tempo; the birth sky, for its part, adds the detail.
