In numerology, the expression number is calculated from your full birth name. Where the life path starts from the date, the expression starts from the letters: it describes less what you go through than the way you go about it. It is a reading grid — an invitation to observe your reflexes, not a verdict on your future.

What is the expression number?

It is also called the total expression number or, in some traditions, the destiny number. The principle is simple: each letter of the alphabet is given a numeric value, you add up all the letters of the full name as it appears on your birth record, and you reduce the total to a single digit.

2. Convert the surname. D = 4, U = 3, P = 7, O = 6, N = 5, T = 2. Total: 4 + 3 + 7 + 6 + 5 + 2 = 27.
3. Add the two together. 28 + 27 = 55.
4. Reduce. 5 + 5 = 10, then 1 + 0 = 1.

Marie Dupont's expression number is therefore 1. If you have several first names on your birth record, add them all, in the order of the register.

A classic exception: the master numbers 11, 22 and 33. If your intermediate total lands exactly on one of them, most practitioners do not reduce it and note it 11/2, 22/4 or 33/6 — an added intensity on the base number, not a superiority.
